How to get to Colmar by car
If you decide to visit Colmar by car, rhis is a pretty right decision! This is mainly because the region is rich with old, small villages that are definitely worth visiting, and it would be a shame to waste time on public transport. With a car, you’ll be able to see much more. Parking in the city is quite manageable if you avoid the old center and park nearby instead.
A nice bonus is the rare free highway in France that runs between Mulhouse and Strasbourg, which means you can drive around Alsace without any toll fees (excluding the cost of fuel, of course. But nearby Switzerland has cheaper fuel).
If you’re driving to Colmar from farther cities, it’s useful to remember that autobahns are free in Germany, but in France, they are toll roads, costing around 5-10 euros per 100 km.
